Welcome to Measurement Engineering Laboratory
In general, measurement engineering studies "development of instruments for accurately measuring physical quantities of a certain object" or "validation and compensation of measurement error", however Measurement Engineering Laboratory (MEL) in Saitama University is interested in revealing the major factors and underlying mechanisms of human perception, behavior, sensory motor system, body representation, self, etc. from new viewpoints involving mechanical engineering. Currently, MEL designs and develops novel experimental system (which allows to experimentally or illusorily confuse our body perception) by means of robotics, haptics, and virtual reality technologies, and applies them to scientific studies in the fields of cognitive neuroscience, brain science, physical therapy, etc. Ultimately, we aim at proposing novel systems based on new findings about human body perception obtained by the multidiciplinary collaborations and further improving our quality of life (QOL).
